(Hard
to place Rott finds her "4-Ever Home"!)
This
is one of our more heart felt success stories. It begins with
us taking in and fostering a lovely little female Rott we
named "Epiphany". Epiphany was found roaming the
city streets of downtown Richmond, Virginia by a city animal
control officer. RORR (Rescue Our Richmond Rottweilers) got
word of this and we picked her up quickly. After a Vet check
it was discovered that she did have full blown Heart Worms, as
well as Whip & Hook worms. Though in many cases we do not
rescue an animal if they have acute Heart Worm infestation
because they are normally very tough to place, and the
costs of treatment are very high, and many dogs do not make it
through the treatments. But, this little girl was so loving
and full of life, we felt that if she was willing to stick it
out, so should we!
During the first few days, we found that
she did not like cats, (we have 3 cats) and after very close
observation, we felt that she had been basic obedience trained
but had regressed a bit due to her time on the street.
Epiphany was one of the most well built bitches we'd ever seen
and WOW, talk about having lots of energy...this dog was
made for agility trials! Soon after her arrival, Epiphany
was taken to a local "low-cost" spay & neutering
facility and after the healing process was completed, we then
took her to another "low cost" facility to have here
first round of Heart Worm treatments. You could not tell that
she had been injected with "Immiticide" the newest
drug used to treat this condition.
At this point, Epiphany had been in our
home for approximately (2) months and had been through a great
deal including being attacked through our kennel fencing by
another female that we were boarding for a gentlemen while he
was having a fence built. During the quick attack, Epiphany
got hooked by the other female's canine in her nose and it
sliced her open pretty good! This is not the way we like to
start our days! ;-) After having treated her injuries at
our Vet. We were beginning to wonder if we'd ever place her at
all. Then we got a call from a pair of women named Lawsden
& India. Unique names for unique people! ;-) They were
interested in Epiphany and came over to see her. It was love
at first site!
During the interview process we discovered
that Lawsden was a certified dog trainer specializing in
aggressive dogs and that she worked as a trainer for "Von
Rottweil Kennels" in New York. She had recently moved to
Richmond and was looking for her own Rotty to work with. Talk
about "Heaven Sent", what a great match! At last
report, Lawsden tells us that she and Epiphany are doing well
and that she is working to correct a "In-House Territory
Marking" issue with Epiphany but she was learning
quickly. As fate would have it, she plans to train Epiphany
for "Agility Trials" how cool is that? Lawsden has
elected to keep the name we gave Epiphany stating that
"she truly is my Epiphany, a life altering
realization"
Thank You Lawsden & India for
being the pure, kind people that you are, Epiphany is a lucky
girl to have found you two, as are we! :-)
