ORIGINAL STORY BY: Mark Payne, RottenRotty.Com

(Rott mix gets a second chance with RORR)

Today we received an email from Sandi Barrett, the founder of RORR (Rescue Our Richmond Rottweilers) who shared with us a touching story of a very young Rott/Lab mix named Daphne that she rescued a number of months ago. Sandi paid to have the Entropian Eye surgery performed on the little girl (out of her pocket) as a puppy prior to her being placed in her 4 ever home. The Daphneyfollowing is an excerpt from the new owner's email to Sandi:

Dear Sandi,
Things are going well with Daphne. She is over most of her bad habits and responds well to direction...she is a very smart girl! She still shows her love for us by chewing on our body parts :-) but she has gotten much gentler. She does not always, as of yet, play well with other dogs, but is very friendly with children and other adults. We believe she is part Rotty, and part Lab, but it seems they were both smaller dogs. She is about 35 lbs now and I don't expect too much more in the way of growth from her. It is not at all a problem that she is not big. As a matter of fact, as strong as she is, and as willful, it is better that she is not too large:-)

We have had some tests of will and I wonder how they would have gone if she was twenty or thirty pounds heavier. She is very athletic...leaping and snatching tennis balls out of the air. There is almost always something in her mouth and amazingly enough, most of the time, they are things she "IS" allowed to have in her mouth. She really enjoys being in the backyard, with us, or even by herself. We take her running with us 3 times a week and I walk her the other days. As would be expected, she has a lot of energy and we try very hard to keep her level of activity up.

We greatly appreciate that you rescued her, and we care for her very, very much.

Best Regards,
Randy H.

Our Comments: It is this kind of happy ending that makes the stressful life of a Rottweiler Rescuer worth every effort! Though we normally do not rescue mix breed Rotts, this little gal simply won us over with her youthful exuberance and her will to truly live! Congratulations to Daphne and her new Humans!
